  1.              PITFALL:  THE MAYAN ADVENTURE
  2.                               DEMO VERSION 1.0

  4. This is a PRE-ALPHA version of Pitfall:  The Mayan Adventure for Windows 95, 
  5. developed for Activision by Kinesoft Development.  As this is pre-alpha, you
  6. may find bugs.
  7.  
  8.     ***** THIS DEMO RUNS BEST ON A PENTIUM 90 OR BETTER MACHINE *****

  10. This demo may also be played on a 486DX/66, however you will experience
  11. slight hitches in the frame rate.  The final version will be compatible 
  12. with a 486/33 processor and will include the AutoPlay feature.
  13.  
  14. If you wish to play the game immediately, double click on the Pitfall icon
  15. inside the PitDemo folder but DO NOT ENABLE SOUND EFFECTS.  This will 
  16. significantly slow the game down because each sound effect when played 
  17. would need to be accessed off the CD.  However, enabling the CD audio will 
  18. have no effect on the speed of the game.

  20. INSTRUCTIONS:  Copy the folder named PitDemo onto the hard drive.  Leave
  21. the CD in the drive in order to access the music tracks.  The PitDemo folder 
  22. contains the following...

  24. BG               (directory)
  25. SOUND            (directory)
  26. SPRITES          (directory)
  27. WAVEMIX          *****THIS DIRECTORY CONTAINS WAVEMIX.INI AND WAVEMIX.DLL.  
  28.         WAVEMIX.INI MUST BE COPIED INTO THE WINDOWS DIRECTORY AND 
  29.         WAVEMIX.DLL MUST BE COPIED INTO THE WINDOWS\SYSTEM DIRECTORY 
  30.         ON THE HARD DRIVE (this will be done automatically in the 
  31.         final version).

  33. Dispdib.dll       *****THIS FILE MUST BE COPIED INTO THE WINDOWS\SYSTEM
  34.         DIRECTORY IF IT IS NOT ALREADY THERE (this will be done
  35.         automatically in the final version).  Also, this file
  36.         will only be visible in the window if the viewing option 
  37.         is set such that it shows hidden files.*****

  44. If while playing the game you notice that there are ghost images of the
  45. game window on the desktop, check to make sure that REALTIME PRIORITY
  46. in the OPTIONS menu is disabled.  
  47.  
  48. Additionally, the demo may suffer from jerkiness when sound effects are 
  49. enabled if running on any machine less than a Pentium 90.  This will be 
  50. fixed in the final version.  Ultimately, the final version of the game will 
  51. require a minimum of a 486DX/33 with 8 meg RAM.

  53. Also, if an error message appears stating that you are not running in FAST 
  54. 256 COLOR mode, switch to this option by going into SETTINGS section of the
  55. DISPLAY function located in CONTROL PANELS.  After selecting 256 mode, click
  56. on APPLY which will then reboot your machine.  Playing the game in non-256
  57. color mode will result in the game playing at a much slower rate.

  60. This demo features the following options...
  61.  
  62. ONE LEVEL        Select either the Title Screen or the First level,
  63.             the Ceiba Jungle.
  64. CD SOUNDTRACK         Enable redbook audio tracks using the OPTIONS menu.  
  65.                        This will access music tracks off the CD.
  66. SOUND EFFECTS           Enable sampled sound effects using the OPTIONS 
  67.                         menu.  It is recommended that you also enable the 
  68.                       CD tracks when enabling the sound effects.  Also, 
  69.                        enabling sound effects on a machine less than a 
  70.                         Pentium 90 will cause jerkiness (see above).
  71. GAME PAD            Enable use of a Gravis game pad by using the 
  72.                        OPTIONS menu.  Remember that a game pad will not 
  73.                      work properly unless it is configured correctly in 
  74.                       Windows 95.  NOTE:  The game pad will pull to the 
  75.             left if used when sound effects are enabled (current
  76.             bug).
  77. WINDOW SIZE            Select various window sizes by using the WINDOW 
  78.                          menu.  Use the SMOOTH FULL SCREEN option only when 
  79.             running the demo on a Pentium 90 or better (see 
  80.             above).
  81. HELP FILE             Read through a preliminary version of an
  82.                      all-encompassing help file that will be included
  83.                      in the final product.

  97. Hold down CTRL and use the directional keys to cheat to anywhere in a level.
